Premier Foods wins coveted award at FMEAs

Premier Foods had an excellent night at the Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards (FMEAs) on November 21st. It collected the most coveted accolade of the evening - the Food Manufacturing Company of the Year award - as well as two other prizes.

The FMEAs are run by Food Manufacture - a recognised and respected food industry voice. It has a monthly magazine that details industry news and it hosts key events throughout the year.

They have been running for the last 13 years and provide a benchmark for all those wishing to experience success in the the food manufacturing industry. The FMEAs are a unique awards ceremony as they focus on the manufacturing process, rather than just the end product.

Rick Pendrous, editor of Food Manufacture, said: “The FMEAs go from strength-to-strength each year in recognising top achievement in the field of food and drink manufacturing.

The star of this year’s award ceremony was Premier Foods it collected the Food Manufacturing Company of the Year award, Ambient Manufacturing Company of the Year and Training Programme of the Year.

Mr Pendrous said: “Selecting the Food Manufacturing Company of the Year proved a tough challenge but Premier Foods’ success in carrying out a major restructuring plan, with the support of the whole factory team, made it a worthy winner.”

Hundreds of industry guests watched on as Premier Foods stole the evening. Simon Ellmore, Premier Foods’ Ashford factory general manager accepted the Food Manufacturing Company of the Year award on behalf of the company. He was joined on stage by the presenter of this year’s FMEAs - Julia Bradbury, star of Countryfile.

Receiving the awards is testament to the hard work the company and its employees have undertaken in order to put Premier Foods back on top. The judges were particularly impressed at how the Ashford Factory was able to rescue itself from potential closure in 2007. The business has had a complete turnaround since then.

Premier Foods was also the recipient of the Training Programme of the Year award. The judges said: “Premier Foods has managed to engage every member of the staff at all levels of the business. It was great to see innovation in the training programme, which was quite quirky but effective.”
