Dragons’ Den winner secure major Morrisons contract

Dragons’ Den winner secure major Morrisons contract

A winner of Dragons' Den has secured a major contract with Morrisons.

Barenaked Foods, producer of low-carb, gluten-free products, secured a £60,000 investment from entrepreneur Peter Jones on the hit BBC show and has now landed its first significant commercial deal. The company, headed up by managing director Ross Mendham, will supply its products to 400 Morrisons stores across the UK.

It is a major coup for the company, founded by Mr Mendham in 2011. He explained that securing a client such as Morrisons has been one of his main goals ever since the first product was made. Barenaked Foods produces noodle made from the Asian-grown Konjac plant which is low in carbohydrates and sugar while only containing eight calories.

Mr Mendham developed the idea when looking for an answer to his own weight loss and dietary requirements. The low-calorie noodles are seen as a replacement in meals which contain carbohydrate heavy foods such as pasta and regular noodles. This innovative approach has been something to attract the attention of larger supermarkets with Morrisons being the first of what Mr Mendham hopes is many.

Andrew Thomas, grocery buyer at Morrisons, said: "Barenaked Noodles help our customers lead healthier lifestyles, whilst also giving them a great tasting alternative to pasta and noodles.

"Ross' product rightly impressed the Dragons on Dragons' Den and our customers can now benefit from buying the popular Barenaked Foods original noodles from nearly 400 Morrison’s supermarkets nationwide."

Barenaked Foods is another example of produce gaining notoriety on Dragons' Den before going on to be successful. One of the biggest success stories from the BBC show is Reggae Reggae Sauce. Brought to the show by founder Levi Roots it has gone on to be stocked in a variety of supermarket chains while also striking deals with Domino's Pizza and KFC.
